18 miles south of Salt Lake City, South Jordan is one of the county’s larger cities, with a population of 69,034 people. Its neighbors are Riverton and Herriman to the south, Copperton to the west, West Jordan and the South Valley Regional Airport to the north, and Sandy to the east. 79% of households report home ownership, a significantly higher figure than the national average of 64%.
Even among Utah as a whole, South Jordan is renowned for its natural beauty, resting between the peaks of the Oquirrh and the Wasatch Mountains. The city has a 3.5-mile section of the Jordan River Parkway with picturesque parks, trails, fishing ponds, and natural habitats (27 parks in total populate South Jordan!). The county fairgrounds are also located inside the city. To account for its very recent prosperity, it also contains one of the most modern housing markets in the Salt Lake area, with 58% of homes being constructed after the year 2000. 77% of homes are single-family, and the 13% of apartment complexes are slightly higher than the Salt Lake City average per city. Residents can enjoy a day of shopping and/or entertainment at either The District in the southwest sector of the city, or The Shops at South Town, due east.
South Jordan is a part of the Jordan School District, which has eleven elementary, middle, and high schools. Additionally, there are four notable private schools: American Heritage, Mountain Heritage Academy, Hawthorne Academy and Stillwater Academy.
Two things that stand out within South Jordan real estate, are the recent builds, and the spaciousness of homes. 37% of homes offer 5 or more bedrooms, a figure much higher than most cities in the Salt Lake area. And yet, prices are mighty reasonable, ranging from $150,000 - $800,000 with an average sale at $425,000.
